Mexico: the site of Izapa in Chiapas State close to the border with Guatemala. The site is extensive with 13 large 'plazas', some low pyramids with stairways and is considered as a link between Olmec and Maya cultures. This area was part of the Soconusco region where the people lived well from fertile land dominated by the Tacaná volcano.
