Mexico Aztec: this stone sculpture represents a Cihuatéotl, or 'woman god'. Cihuateteo (plural of Cihuateotl) were women who died in childbirth and acquired the status of a god. Their deaths were deemed equivalent to that of warriors on the battle field.       Museo del Templo Mayor
