Inca capital Cuzco, Peru. Beaterio de las Nazarenas: doorway and carvings of snakes. There are many theories about the meaning of the snakes including one for them being a symbol of learning. The beaterio was founded in 1695 as a place for young women seeking refuge to meditate and learn.
