The principal shrine in the Inca capital, Cuzco, Peru, was the Sun Temple, or Coricancha. [Korikancha] The Spaniards built the Church of Santo Domingo on an earthen platform which supported the original Inca temple. The curving wall of finely cut stones is a retaining wall for an infill of earth and rock.
