Comalcalco, Mexico. Maya. Comalcalco is particularly unusal because, due to a lack of regional limestone, the material normally used for temple construction, the builders used kiln-fired bricks. Additionally they marked many of the bricks with geometric and animal designs, but these were faced inwards and cannot be seen - except in the museum.
