Bolivia, Samaipata. The village dates from the 16th century and the arrival of Spanish settlers. The Spaniards gave the name El Fuerte - the 'fort' - to the huge rock dominating a hilltop about 9kms / 5.6 miles from the village. The rock with its many carvings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
