The mizzen mast was the first to be taken down. It had been hoped to remove it whole but it broke as it was being lifted and crashed into the deckhouse fondly known as 'Strathcona's teahouse' - because Lord Strathcona had spent much time repairing it for use as a storehouse and somewhere to take refuge from the cold and wind.
