Brazil: Amazonas state:  the 'meeting of the waters' near Manaus, where the black water of the Rio Negro meets the 'brown water' of the sediment laden Rio Solimões - the Brazilian name for the Amazon upstream from this meeting point. Together these rivers form the Brazilian river Amazon, which flows some 1000 miles (1609kms) from here to the mouth on the Atlantic coast.
