Brazil: O Salto das Sete Quedas do Guaíra - known as the Sete Quedas or Guaíra Falls on the Paraná river disappeared with the construction of the Itaipú dam. Situated on the Upper Paraná river, the falls were said to have the world's largest volume of falling water. This resulted from the Paraná being forced through a narrow canyon which reduced the width of the river from 1250 ft (381m) to 200 ft (61m).
