Brazil: Amapá state. The cores of thousands of tree trunks litter the yard of a saw-mill in the Amazon forest. These cores are left after super-sharp machines have taken thin 'peelings' of the wood which are dried as flattened sheets. The sheets are glued and compressed to make plywood.
