Brazil: Mato Grosso state, Xingú River. On this Amazon tributary an indigenous Kayapó fisherman stands at the end of a canoe to shoot a fish with a bow and arrow This is skill requiring not just good balance but the ability to adjust the aim to allow for the refraction produced by the water. The bow is about two metres long and made from tough wood requiring considerable strength to bend.
