Brazil: Rio de Janeiro, Carnaval: A samba school parades along the avenue of the giant Samba Stadium, the Passarela do Samba or colloquially known as the Sambodromo. The Rio Carnaval has grown from a street parade to a giant spectacle drawing tourists from around the world. The Passarella do Samba designed by the Brasilian architect Oscar Niemeyer in 1984 is 1700m / 1860 yards long and the stands can accommodate over 88,000 spectators.
