Chile: In the National Reserve of Malacahuello, northeast of Temuco, the Christmas Volcano, Volcan Navidad began life late December 1988 on the side of the existing Lonquimay Volcano 2865m and quickly grew to a height of 400m. Spewing ash, rock and sulphurous fumes the eruption lasted two years.
