Chile: in 1939 an earthquake devastated a large part of the town of Chillán. Much of the town was rebuilt and included the Escuela Mexico, the gift of a school from Mexico. The Mexican muralists, David Siqueiros and Xavier Guerrero decorated the main staircase and library in a work entitled 'Death to the Invader'. The murals include important figures in Chilean and Mexican history such as the Mapuche warriors Lautaro and Galvarino, and the Mexican heroes Padre Miguel Hidalgo and Emiliano Zapata.
