Pre Columbian gold of the Calima culture - the Golden Man of Calima   When the first Spaniards arrived in the 16th century many gold working tribal units lived in different parts of the country. The Calima in the western lowlands near the port of Buenaventura were known for simple goldwork. Museo del Oro Bogotá.
