Brazil, Fernando de Noronha. The British naturalist and philosopher Charles Darwin was in the archipelago briefly in 1832 during the voyage of the British navy ship HMS Beagle. Darwin noted.. they are of volcanic origin but there is no sign of a crater. There is a remarkable hill over 1000 feet high. The Morro do Pico is the hill in the background
