Suriname. The colonial built (1836) Ministry of Finance in Paramaribo stands on one side of the small green plain known as Onafhankelijkheidsplein or Independence Square. The statue is of Johan Adolf Pengel,Suriname's most famous politician and president in the 1960s.

The inner city of Paramaribo is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
