STREET - ARACATACA - COLOMBIA | | Aracataca
is a small town about 30kms inland from the Caribbean. At one time it was a stop
on the railway line from the coast to Bogotá the capital. The climate is
tropical and life is easy going. The main street is busy with people, noisy with
music and totally unhurried. It was here back in March 1927 that Gabriel García
Márquez was born. 'Gabo' as he known affectionately is Colombia's only
Nobel prize winning author and just one of four in Latin America. He began writing
in journalism and after turning to literature his major novel One Hundred Years
of Solitude was published in 1967 as Cien Años de Soledad.
