© Margaret Mee and the Moonflower - the open bloom of the cactus Selenicereus wittii. The photograph was taken in the flooded forest of the Rio Negro, Brasil at about midnight after Margaret had completed the basic sketches for her painting. The flower has a soft , sweet perfume and is fully open for only a few hours.
