Saving the Great Britain 1970

Isambard Kingdom Brunel's iron ship Great Britain was forced back from near Cape Horn to the Falkland Islands in 1886. The hull was used as a storehouse until 1933. Next - in 1937 it was taken to a shallow cove where it was scuttled and beached. The Great Britain was left to rust away until in 1969 a plan to recover the wreck was launched in England. 1n 1970 a successful salvage operation was completed and the Great Britain was taken from the Falkland Island to Bristol, England.
