SAVING THE ' GREAT BRITAIN ' 1970
Isambard Kingdom Brunel's iron ship Great Britain was forced back from near Cape Horn to the Falkland Islands in 1886. The hull was used as a storehouse until 1933. Next - in 1937 it was taken to a shallow cove where it was scuttled and beached. The Great Britain was left to rust away until in 1969 a plan to recover the wreck was launched in England. 1n 1970 a successful salvage operation was completed and the Great Britain was taken from the Falkland Island to Bristol, England.

Without the inspiration of Reverend Dr.Ewan Corlett who died in 2005, the Great Britain could still be resting in Sparrow Cove.
